How CBD Oil May Help Treat Difficult Or Chronic Skin Conditions

Cannabinoid receptors are found all throughout our body, including throughout our skin. CBD is incredibly anti-inflammatory and soothing (if you want to hear me speak about the role of CBD in trauma recovery, you can listen to my podcast on that here) so it’s no surprise that researchers have found several different cannabinoid receptors in the skin. Both cannabinoid receptors type 1 and type 2 (CB1 and CB2) are found in all skin, and help regulate everything from our hair growth to our skin’s immune system to it’s oil production.  CB1 and CB2 receptors have been found in …

Affection From Your Mom When You Were A Baby May Buffer Your Stress As An Adult

In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend, I want to share with you one of my all time favorite medical studies. It shows how a little TLC from your mom may actually help protect your health, well into adulthood. Published in 2005 in Dialoges in Clinical Neuroscience, researchers found that the how much affection a mommy rat showed to her babies in their first week of life protected them from future stress later on in life — decreasing their stress response and even lowering stress hormone production. Researchers compared two different types of mom rats, separating …

Another Difference Between Men and Women… Found On Autopsy

Last week I wrote to you about a new medical study that shows how women and men have different cardiac responses to stress. This week, yet another difference between men and women… this time, in the brain.     Turns out, on autopsy, investigators found that there was a distinct difference between the brains of men and women in depression. There are lots of differences between depression in men and women, as we already know. These results may help explain why. It turns out, the brain literally re-wires differently during depression depending on if you are male or female: Women …

A Super Interesting Difference Between Men and Women

A very interesting study looked at how our heart responds to mental stress. Turns out, there is a very key difference between the way a woman’s heart responds to stress and the way a man’s heart responds.   Mental stress is well known to trigger cardiac changes (as I go into more detail on below…) but so far, no study had looked out a difference between the sexes. Today’s study, published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology on Dec. 21, 2017, showed definitively that there is an incredible difference between how a woman’s cardiovascular system responds to mental stress …
