Letting Go Helps You Heal (Here’s How)

Well I don’t know much. I do know that this world is a complicated, beautiful, painful place. And I have lived quite a few decades and for roughly half of that time I’ve been a practicing physician as well, so I’ve learned quite a bit about what allows the human body to be resilient to stress and trauma and illness and disease. And what I’ve found is that surrendering is what allows healing to happen.   Surrendering = healing.   What heals people in real life is the total opposite of what I learned about healing in medical school. We …

Resolving PTSD, OCD, Tobacco and Drug Addiction Too

A recent medical study came out looking at the natural supplement N-Acetylcysteine (NAC for short) in healing the brain after trauma… …with fantastic results.   NAC is a potent brain antioxidant and protector — found essential in the healing of the brain after impact injury (such as concussion) so researchers wanted to investigate if this supplement could actually help heal the brain after different types of mental injury as well… such as PTSD and addiction. It’s not often that a holistic supplement is studied this extensively and found to have such robust positive outcomes, yet it’s not something that I’ve …

The Quickest Way To Heal Is To Surrender, Here’s How

Surrendering is safe.   Working intuitively with patients all over the globe, I’ve learned a lot about loss, grief and healing. I can say for a fact that what heals people in real life contrasts quite vividly to what I *learned* about grief and healing in med school. I still remember being in medical school and learning all about the classic model of the grief process, set forth by the amazing and brave Elisabeth Kubler-Ross:   D A B D A (I’m sure many of my readers, who are also healers, are familiar with this acronym:) meaning: D — denial …

Bullying Is No Joke, 3 Ways To Protect Your Kids

Continuing in this Back-To-School month with a focus on the health of our children, let’s talk about something uncomfortable.     Let’s talk about something that we *need* to be talking about more. Let’s talk about something positive that we can do to protect the physical and mental well being of our children for the rest of their lives: end bullying. Published in JAMA Psychiatry in Feb, 2016, the largest study ever to look at childhood bullying documents something we already *know* — that victims of bullying in childhood have painful, lasting ramifications well into adulthood.   The Study: …

Reducing Background Anxiety Increases Mental Clarity: Here’s How

Recently published in the Journal Of Neuroscience (June 2015) researchers looked at the role of norepinephrine in songbirds to determine what effect it has on stimuli detection and processing.   What they found is that norepinepherine helped decrease the “background noise” of the brain, allowing songbirds to not only enhance their auditory signal detection but to accurately encode complex incoming information. With higher norepinepherine levels, the brain had less background activity and less spontaneous firing of neurons, allowing the songbirds to distinguish the relevant incoming information from irrelevant incoming information.   Meaning… the less background noise in the brain, the …

Parents, I’m Sick To My Stomach Over This…

As you know, I truly enjoy reporting positive and healing medical information for you, dear reader. And that is the plan for the next 7 weeks, as I walk you through your Chakras from a medical point of view and give you great ideas for supporting your inner healing. But today… I’m sitting here with a knot in my stomach and here’s why. Please consider helping me spread this news: There was a study recently published in Pediatrics (on July 2, 2012) looking at spanking and other forms of physical punishment. As makes common sense, there have been many many …
