Thoughts On Health… my fav water filter

You all know how I feel about fluoride. I’ve blogged here about why I avoid it in my toothpaste and why I don’t really want to be drinking it, either. In fact, as I get older and have passed the age of peak bone density (and anyone who is over the age of 30 has) I want to preserve bone mass more than ever. I really think it is important that I avoid fluoride altogether (and soy too.) Alas, this is impossible. If you eat food grown from the earth, you consume fluoride. Thanks to the government mass medicating […]

Ode to a blueberry

It’s blueberry season here… get ’em while you can!     My lovely friend the blueberry, how do I love thee? 1. I love thee because you are local and native to our country… the perfect food if you are looking to eat locally and eat healthy. 2. I love thee because you are loaded in fiber, vitamin C, manganese, and vitamin E. 3. I love thee because you are loaded in antioxidants, especially the anthocyanins. 4. I love thee because you can be frozen for storage and still retain full antioxidant powers. 5. I love thee because even

Thoughts On Health, Thyroid

I am busy getting ready for the next Etsy show in downtown Charleston… it will be this Saturday, from 10AM to 3PM in the Music Farm. Stop by and say hi! I will have the kits ready to give to you to take home in hand, and fabulous pricing on

Strawberry Bread Recipe

This is my second favorite recipe for using up my strawberries. It makes two loafs, and it freezes really well, so this is an incredible time saver for me — I make one that we eat quickly (it’s YUM!) and freeze the other one to eat the next month (or the very next week, depending on how much we are craving it.) I wind up using the strawberries that I wash, slice, and store in my freezer in glass jars all winter long making this strawberry bread — it is so good and makes me feel like spring is right

FAQ: Our Natural Transition to Vegetarian…

I have been asked four times in the past two weeks about my thoughts on food choices for children, so I figured this is the Universe asking me to blog about it 🙂 Concerned parents were wondering if they should be forcing their children to eat a certain amount of veggies each day, and yet other parents were concerned that their children may not be getting enough meat. I’ve thought long and hard about what I believe. I’ve considered everything I know from my education as a physician and everything I *feel* as an intuitive mother, and I have developed

Thoughts on Health… Super Simple Spring Detox

Wow. The weather this past weekend really knocked my socks off! The warmth and sun has made me into a new woman! And like I do every year when the earth begins to warm and spring buds start popping up everywhere, I get spring cleaning fever. Not just in my home (although I spring cleaned all our closets over the weekend and that felt super good!) but also I want to spring clean my body, from the inside out. I know there are a million ways to do this… raw food diets and clean diets and fasting and liver cleanses
