My Latest Painting… How I Painted It & Why I Bothered

Have you ever curled up in the fetal position and just wanted to no longer exist?  Just dissolve into the floor and no longer be?  Of course you have, you are a human being and you’ve been traumatized as we all are in different and horrible ways.  I’ve spent so many early mornings, so many late nights curled up like this on my shower floor, vomiting down the drain from anxiety and pain and unable to stand. This painting is my attempt to comfort you in those moments.  Trauma and pain have a very intense way of releasing […]

One Of My Favorite Quotes To Help Release Anxiety

Whenever I feel anxious (which is most of the time) it’s because I forgot that I am more than this one body, this one place in time, this list of things I have to do today. The minute I remember that I am a living soul, wearing a breathing earth suit made out of 13 billion year old stars, I can relax into the experience.    I talk more about that in my blog post a few weeks ago, showing you how I painted the Made Of Stardust art series. Back to my anxiety — and it always

My Latest Painting On Letting Go Of Your Trauma Coping Mechanisms

I painted this because I, like all humans, have gone through heavy, life altering traumas. And I, like all humans, have built up some impressive coping mechanisms to get me through. But sometimes those coping mechanisms are no longer needed. Sometimes we forget that the storm might have actually passed.  We forget to check to see if it is still even raining. So we walk in the dark heavy shadow of our walls and barriers, and we can’t even see the sun has started peeking out. I had an image of myself, walking with my umbrella over my

The Dance… My Latest Original Painting And Why I Painted It

“What is to give light must endure burning.” -Victor Frankl     In turning 49. starting my 50th circle around the sun, I’m ever aware that time on this earth, any length of time, even one day of time, is precious.  I want to start thanking my body for the gift of waking up today in it.  And focus on what an honor that is, not the things I don’t like about it or the limitations I perceive from it. To remind myself, I wanted to choose a word of the year that evoked the energy of wearing my body in

Feeling At Home Inside Your Body (+ My Latest Healing Painting)

My favorite way to release anxiety, drop out of my overthinking mind, and come home to my body is to combine grounding, deep breathing, and my favorite mantra. Repeating a mantra has been shown to help with anxiety disorders such as PTSD, and I can think of no better phrase to repeat to help release stress, get out of fight/flight mode and relax into rest/digest mode. A randomized controlled medical study comparing mantra therapy as a treatment for PTSD was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry on June 20, 2018 and here is what researchers found: 173

My Latest Painting: I Am Nothing, I Am Everything, All At Once

Today I want to share with you the latest painting I just painted. You can probably tell from some of my recent blog posts that I’ve been thinking a lot about the preciousness of our fleeting time on this earth.  About how our bodies reflect God’s divine design, and about the beauty that is inherent in the death transition.     So I wanted to paint it.   To somehow capture that moment when your physical body releases your energetic body and the dissolution of the tangible flows into the intangible.  How must that feel? I think how it must feel

The Golden Ratio of Our Beautiful Human Body, Both Inside and Out

You have probably heard about the Golden Ratio (in math it’s known as Phi) before — it is a pervasive pattern in both nature as well as in the natural design of our human anatomy. Even if you didn’t know it was called the Golden Ratio, you’ve probably seen figures like this one — first described by Leonardo da Vinci — that show our body’s torso proportions, limb proportions, facial proportions, finger and toe proportions, external ear proportions, etc… are all designed according to this beautiful, reproducible mathematic principle:       This ratio is a common
