Release Stuck Emotions To Truly, Deeply Heal

The theme of releasing stuck emotions has come up several times in the past week with my private patients, so I’m going to take that as a gentle nudge to repost this article on my blog. It’s perfect timing, because fall is a natural time to release and shed all that no longer serves you. As the saying goes, you only have to glance at the beautiful changing colors on the fall trees outside right now to see how very beautiful it is to let go. But what if you are feeling stuck? I’ve got you covered. Read on:   […]

Sleep Increases Your Recovery From Depression

A new medical study shows what we can all intuitively feel — — that when we are in a depression, we truly need deep, restorative sleep to recover.     It’s okay to sleep more when feeling depressed — in fact, a recent study released in June 2017 showed that patients who were medically treated for depression but did not sleep well were three times less likely to actually recover from depression. And sleeping 7 hours or more nightly actually tripled the rates of full remission in depression. Here’s more:   The Study: (presented at the 31st Annual Meeting of

Light Therapy Quickly Improves Libido

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, so today’s medical study reveals a simple tip for boosting libido! Woot!   New research (presented at the 29th European College of Neuropsychopharmacology Congress on September 19, 2016) shows that the same light therapy recommendation to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can significantly improve sexual satisfaction in people with low desire after only 2 weeks of treatment! While this study was on men, because light therapy is incredibly effective for females too, I truly believe that this would work for women with low sex drive and should be first line therapy for anyone with

Is Stress Is Making Your Antidepressant Ineffective?

If you take antidepressants, new research shows that a stressful lifestyle has the power to completely remove any healing benefit you may have had from taking that Rx medication.     Environment can completely impact whether or not antidepressant therapy works or not. Behavioral, lifestyle, and environmental stressors absolutely MUST be addressed… and today’s medical report is proof that a medication alone is just not enough to help. Interestingly, people with high levels of job stress are statistically the MOST likely to reach for a drug to help treat depression… yet are also most likely to find that drug therapy

As energy naturally flows through your body, it gives rise to emotions… emotions are the body’s natural energetic release valve.     Often we are tempted to label this as a bad thing…. as something gone wrong if we are feeling something intense. But when energy is flowing through your body — this is never a bad thing. Change and flow and sensation and emotion are all essential to life. The body giving rise to emotions and symptoms is a really good thing. When the energy is flowing unrestricted through your body, you are releasing the old and welcoming

Inflammation Depresses Mood (Here’s How To Reverse It)

Increased inflammation in the body worsens symptoms of clinical depression, says a new study published in JAMA Psychiatry on November 18, 2015.   Higher levels of blood markers of inflammation were found to be directly correlated with a variety of depressive symptoms, including sleep difficulty, decreased energy levels, decreased motivation and increased or decreased appetite.   The details: Researchers looked at data on C-reactive protein levels (a blood marker of whole body inflammation) in over 15,000 patients. Higher levels of inflammation were directly correlated with higher levels of depressive symptoms, and the correlation was dose dependent… meaning the higher

The One Thing You Can Do Daily To Lift All Types Of Depression… Naturally

We all know that getting morning light each day significantly improves seasonal blues (or winter depression.) But a new study shows that light therapy lifts depression — even depression that is NOT seasonally related — *more effectively* than antidepressant drug therapy.   The assumption has always been that major depressive disorder is different from seasonal depression, but this study shows that light therapy can be used on it’s own to treat depression whether seasonal or not. Published in JAMA Psychiatry on Nov 18, 2015, this placebo controlled study supports the use of a non-pharmaceutical intervention over a pharmaceutical intervention, which
