Winter can be a tough time for anybody’s skin… painfully dry hands and cracked heels galore (ouch!)   Dry heated air dehydrates and cracks your vulnerable skin while you are inside staying warm… …combine that with whipping cold winds that chaff skin when you are outside and winter is just no fun on your skin, especially if you suffer from chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema or other forms of dermatitis.   Today I have a blog post for you that is full of wonderful things you can do to support tender dry winter skin and support skin health […]

Your Extra Weight Is Not As Bad For You As Your Doctor Wants You To Think

I am always reading the medical literature looking for positive messages to share with you. And during the holiday season… when most of us have naturally gained a little weight… this is the perfect time to share today’s uplifting medical study with you. This latest study didn’t receive much attention (the negative scary reports always seem to be the ones your doctors want to share with you!) but I think it should have.   Researchers looked at two very large databases, examining body mass (Body Mass Index — BMI) and metastatic renal (kidney) cancer survival rates. They found that obesity

Acupuncture Medically Proven To Help Constipation

Acupuncture has been proven to not only significantly help relieve constipation… …but it actually helps relieve chronic, severe constipation not responding to other treatments! On top of that, acupuncture was shown to have long term, persistent effects in helping to solve constipation. Woot!   Why aren’t we hearing about this (yet still seeing endless plugs for Metamucil and fiber bulking agents as well as new Rx drugs such as Linzess and Amitiza on TV?)   Because holistic remedies never get the same press that over-the-counter and prescription remedies do. But that’s what you have me for! I only share uplifting,

Your Skin Is Trying To Tell You Something

Skin can speak to us through the location of the eczema patches we have, through acne, through dry tight skin, hives, changes in hair growth, pigmentation, wrinkles, stretch marks… …and much, much more.     Skin can speak subtly through chronic messages that it whispers to you your entire life… ….or skin can scream loudly and angrily during acute transitions and times of crisis.   But no matter how your skin speaks to you, there is always a message to be appreciated.     Because our skin replicates so quickly, it is a wonderful mirror for what is going on

Fasting To Decrease Cancer Recurrence

Recently published on March 31, 2016 in JAMA Oncology, new evidence supports the idea that fasting at night reduces the risk of cancer recurrence.   Every night as we sleep we all enter a mini-fasting period before we *break-the-fast* with breakfast each morning. Prolonging the amount of time spent fasting — skipping evening snacks all together and fasting for 13+ hours each night — reduced the risk of breast cancer according to a study that spanned thousands of patients followed for over a decade.   Simply taking care to eat an early dinner and not eating again until breakfast (for

Household Chemicals Damage Cognition (And Small Changes You Can Make To Protect Yourself)

A recent study just published May 2016 in the journal Environmental Research reveals the extent of damage that common household chemicals are having on children… … impairing cognitive function and behavioral development.   Chemicals that are routinely found in homes that are implicated in impairing cognitive function of children are commonly found in nonstick cooking pans, carpet pads, upholstery, and in electronics. Exposure during pregnancy to these and other toxic items containing polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) is now definitively associated with decreased cognitive function of children later in life. These findings show that the mother’s concentration

Low Vit D Linked To Increase In Dementia And Broken Bones (You Can Prevent It)

Low vitamin D levels are associated with a substantial acceleration of memory loss and cognitive decline, a new study shows.   Published Sept 14, 2015 in JAMA Neurology, researchers looked at baseline vitamin D levels and mental status change in over 380 adults (average age 75 years old.)   Here is what they found:   35% of participants were vit D insufficient. Average vit D levels were lowest among participants found to have dementia (average levels were 16 ng/mL — goal vit D levels are 40 ng/mL or higher according to the Vitamin D Council.) Followed for almost 5 years,
