8 Unusual Grounding Tools You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

I get asked all the time about alternatives to the cheap plastic grounding mats and bed pads, from folks wondering if there are more eco-friendly alternatives to the synthetic, hot, sticky mats and polyester synthetic sheets that eventually sit in a landfill for hundreds of years. The answer is yes!  There are eco-friendly, all natural, organic, hand crafted and locally made grounding mats and bed pads (you can check them out right here.) But when I also tell folks there are other eco-friendly ways to get grounded — ways that utilize items you already own, for example: making […]

Avoiding The Sun Is Actually More Deadly Than Smoking

A recent article, published in the Journal of Internal Medicine on March 16, 2016, found that folks who avoided sun exposure had a decreased life expectancy, similar to smokers who bathed in the sun.   This study looked at almost 30,000 participants (females ages 25 – 64 year old with no history of malignancy) over a span of 20 years. Researchers followed participants for over 20 years and tracked health outcomes and life span. Pesticide Exposure and Autism

There is ample proof to show that pesticides are contributing to the steep rise of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and developmental delay (DD.)   The latest study was published a few weeks ago on June 23, 2014 in Environmental Health Perspectives.   This study specifically links prenatal exposure of organophosphates (the most commonly applied agricultural pesticide) and other commonly used pesticides to autism rates in offspring.   Pesticides are neurotoxins that are clearly having a known, predictable and permanent effect on the developing fetal neurology during gestation. This particular study looked at northern CA residents (the state of CA alone

Evidence That Pesticides Increase Alzheimers Risk

New evidence shows that having measurable levels of pesticide metabolites in your blood increases your risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 400%.   Published on January 27, 2014 in JAMA Neurology, a new study shows that high levels of DDE (a metabolic by-product of notorious pesticide DDT) in the body was found to cause a 4-fold increase in Alzheimers Disease risk. This study confirms that if there are serum levels of DDE in your blood (from pesticide exposure) this is crossing your blood-brain barrier and directly affecting your brain.   Even though DDT was banned in the United States in 1972,

Skin Care Round Up — holistic moisturizing, exfoliation, and wound healing

My skin care motto is: simplify.   Let me tell you a little about my background… Before becoming a full time Mommy I was considering going into Dermatology, so in medical school I took three times the regular amount of training in Dermatology as a result. I also spent four summers throughout college working at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD… working with a research team who was investigating oncogenes. And… as I mentioned in my sunscreen article last week, my father was a top scientist at the forefront of melanoma research, so in my lifetime I’ve gotten a

My Favorite Way To Protect Against Skin Cancer

Last week over the holidays I soaked up tons of sun with my children and connected with the earth and the ocean and the sun and the sand. It was glorious and healing. AND it reminded me to post my annual sunscreen review for my readers! Today, I’m going to show you the sunscreen that I personally use to protect my children’s tender skin and my own skin as well. I’ll also walk you through my thoughts on the whole sunscreen dilemma… for us it is only our THIRD line of defense against skin cancer and in many instances I’d

To Prepare For Spring…

I love to fill this blog with lots of ways you can support your own health in your own home. I believe health is your birthright and your natural state. One of the best ways you can support your own health is to take charge of the food you put in your body.   Beyond checking labels and shopping organic and eco-friendly packaging… I’m talking more intimate than that.
