Thoughts On Health… Excercise (dang!)

Oh how I have fallen. I am completely out of my exercise routine… I manage to work in an at-home 20 minute Yoga DVD about twice a week and those 40 minutes, my friend, is the total sum of my exercising attempts lately. At first I told myself it’s okay because I’m young and can get it all back. Hmmm. I think I still can but it’s going to be harder to re-capture my cardiovascular fitness now then it used to be, so instead of maintaining health I will have to re-build it. Bummer.   Then I told […]

Thoughts on Health…. Chocolate for heart and brain health (yes, you heard me… chocolate!)

Wow, it is my complete pleasure and honor to bring you this tidbit of good news today, published recently in the British Medical Journal. Folks who consume chocolate often… we are talking every single day or even multiple times a day… have about a 40% reduced risk of heart attack and a 30% reduced risk of stroke. In fact, the patients who consumed the most chocolate had the most cardio and neurologic protection. About a third less risk of cardiovascular events and stroke combined attributed to chocolate intake. This was the finding of a huge, meta analysis looking at

Thoughts on Health FAQ: Uterine Prolapse… or “Thanks a lot, gravity!”

I’ve been asked about uterine prolapse multiple times over the past month or two, so I thought it would be a good topic for my blog. With all of the commercials out there asking you to sue your doctor if you’ve had a mesh implant… and all of the complications that can arise from the surgery, I wanted to share with you my advice for mild prolapse. Avoid surgery. That is my advice for sure. But what can you do to help with mild to moderate prolapse? Enter Jade and Pearl.   Jade and Pearl sell reusable sea pearls (all

Thoughts On Health… my fav water filter

You all know how I feel about fluoride. I’ve blogged here about why I avoid it in my toothpaste and why I don’t really want to be drinking it, either. In fact, as I get older and have passed the age of peak bone density (and anyone who is over the age of 30 has) I want to preserve bone mass more than ever. I really think it is important that I avoid fluoride altogether (and soy too.) Alas, this is impossible. If you eat food grown from the earth, you consume fluoride. Thanks to the government mass medicating

Thoughts on health… the creative process aint always pretty.

Hi! I spent a good portion of the weekend having fun with my paints and papers and favorite quotes for a set of artwork I’m creating called Quote Splat. For no other reason then I woke up one day and decided to write down my top 10 favorite quotes of all time and illustrate them. I’m going to start showing them to you every Wednesday starting this Wednesday and giving them away each week for free! Because creating anything… whether it is art or a meal or a new way to help your loved ones laugh or a

Guest post… Organic Make Up (or, what I use for my oily eyelids, but that just doesn’t sound right…)

Alison Price is stopping by my blog again today to tell us a little about why her make-up line is so awesome. She runs Organic Glow.com, which features the certified organic product range Miessence. I knew the products were awesome from the ingredient lists I’ve checked out… but I have to say, I’ve tried other mineral make ups and not fully enjoyed them. So I was a bit leary to try the loose powder, because I’ve had such bad experiences in the past with the powder settling into my expression lines and fine lines around my eyes… I usually wind

The Energy of Menopause

I’m excited to sneak in a quick video for you today… ignore the ratty hair and the horrible angle (dang, do you have to see right up my nose???) I propped my phone up on a potted plant in my bedroom to get this video done quickly while the kids were happy playing. One of these days, one of them… I promise, I will actually blow dry my hair and wear something nice and put concealer on top of my random face splotches so you can stare at something other then my under eye circles and PMS pimples while I
