Sharing A Thanksgiving Meal Just Might Make You Healthier… The Healing Power Of Connection

You can already intuitively feel that connecting with others boosts your health. Think of how much better do you feel after a warm hug from a friend, the comforting squeeze of a partner’s hand, or the joy of laughing around a dinner table with your children. Sharing space with a loved one for even one minute is enough to completely turn a bad day into a good one. But it’s not just something you intuitively know, it’s something that has been medically studied and shown to actually protect you health. Medical studies have even shown that increasing your connection to others not only improves […]

Reflections On The Death Transition: What I’ve Seen, What I Feel

As a physician, I’ve had quite a few experiences with patients who were dying, as well as patients who had near death experiences and told me about them. In medical school, I had an attending physician who had a heart transplant. He said as they removed his heart on the operating table, he went somewhere totally different than earth. After putting his new heart in, the surgeon shocked it to get it to start beating again. He says he felt that shock and felt himself feeling pulled back into his physical body and when he woke

Bullying Is No Joke, 3 Ways To Protect Your Kids

Continuing in this Back-To-School month with a focus on the health of our children, let’s talk about something uncomfortable.     Let’s talk about something that we *need* to be talking about more. Let’s talk about something positive that we can do to protect the physical and mental well being of our children for the rest of their lives: end bullying. 4 Ways To Help A Friend In Crisis

I just said goodbye to my parents. They drove completely unexpectedly 9 hours straight down to my home to be with me in my time of need. They stayed a full week, took care of my children and I with love, humor, devotion and loyalty.   I love my parents so much. They are a shining example of what a strong, 45+ year marriage can be and a beacon of light in a very troubling time in my own life.     A strong long term marriage is something I’m so appreciative that my parents can model for my own

Thoughts On Health: My Aura, Your Aura, Our Aura… it’s a colorful world out there!!!!

I had the great fortune of having my aura photographed recently, and I loved the experience so much I wanted to share it with you here. If you live anywhere in the Charleston area, I’ve got the perfect activity for you to check out. A very dear friend of mine took me to see Chris Terzagian, of Beaming Love. Chris can photograph your aura and give you the run down on what the colors represent, the strength of your aura, and a printout of all the different components captured in your aura at that particular time.   It’s a really

Thoughts On Health… Tribute to a friend

Last weekend, someone I love very dearly passed away. The kind of someone who you know you had a soul contract with… someone who comes into your life and forever alters the path you walk. She was someone who I know I will have a lifetime with again one day… someone who came into my life at the exact perfect time and who opened my eyes to life in a way I had never been able to grasp before. Ever since she transitioned on, I can feel her. Closer than ever, I hold tightly to her presence in my life.
