The Intuitive Energy Of Skin

This is the third post in my series about our largest organ… our skin! Today I take an intuitive approach to what our skin represents and give you two specific, personal examples from my own life… … to show you how our skin manifests signs and symptoms and to help you interpret your own skin messages. As a physician, skin is like magic to me.   In medicine, we see the miracle of skin repair all the time: You can cut it during surgery, and it will grow back together within a week. You can scrape it to take a …

Skin Care Round Up — holistic moisturizing, exfoliation, and wound healing

My skin care motto is: simplify.   Let me tell you a little about my background… Before becoming a full time Mommy I was considering going into Dermatology, so in medical school I took three times the regular amount of training in Dermatology as a result. I also spent four summers throughout college working at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD… working with a research team who was investigating oncogenes. And… as I mentioned in my sunscreen article last week, my father was a top scientist at the forefront of melanoma research, so in my lifetime I’ve gotten a …

Winter Skin

Winter can be a tough time for anybody’s skin… and especially the tender new skin of newborn and preemie babies. Dry heated air that dehydrates and cracks vulnerable skin inside combine with whipping cold winds that chaff skin outside… …no fun if this is baby’s first winter or if you suffer from chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema or other forms of dermatitis.   Today I have a blog post for you that is full of wonderful things you can do to support tender dry winter skin and support skin health in general. From pulling together all my most …

My New Fav Sunscreen

In years past, I’ve recommended Colorescience Sunforgettable SPF 30 powder, which is a powdered form of titanium dioxide that is micronized (yet *not* a nanoparticle) and I’ve also blogged about Mission Essentials, whose sunscreen is locally made and produced… I still like both products and use them from time to time, but they both contain titanium dioxide. In an effort to avoid titanium dioxide, I’ve kept up the search for the ultimate suncare cream.   I’ve found it. Here it is, ladies and gentlemen, the ultimate in sunscreen: Miessnce Reflect Outdoor Balm. Why is it my fav? It truly absorbs …

Guest post… Organic Make Up (or, what I use for my oily eyelids, but that just doesn’t sound right…)

Alison Price is stopping by my blog again today to tell us a little about why her make-up line is so awesome. She runs Organic Glow.com, which features the certified organic product range Miessence. I knew the products were awesome from the ingredient lists I’ve checked out… but I have to say, I’ve tried other mineral make ups and not fully enjoyed them. So I was a bit leary to try the loose powder, because I’ve had such bad experiences in the past with the powder settling into my expression lines and fine lines around my eyes… I usually wind …

Guest Blogger — Mission Essentials

I am so happy to introduce today’s guest blogger… Steve and Gail Salomon. They own and operate a local company called Mission Essentials… they were introduced to me by a participant in my Skin Happiness eCourse (thank you so much Diane!) Diane wanted me to look over the ingredient list for this particular sunscreen brand and I’m so glad she did. I found nothing but amazing ingredients and physical blocking agents (no chemical sunscreens or preservatives) along with the fact that the product is micro-sized but *NOT* nano-sized… this sunscreen fit the bill perfectly. In addition to it being an …
