Inspiration Wednesdays… I shredded my old anatomy textbook and came up with this instead!

Okay, maybe I didn’t shred it… more like tore it apart. I created several new works of art out of it, and wanted to share the first one with you here:       I had so much fun with this artwork… I literally ripped out the page from my old anatomy textbook and painted in the new *reality* that I have discovered is the true secret to health. Being a physician it is so interesting for me to look back and reflect on what we were taught as impressionable young students in medical school… the model for disease and […]

Thoughts On Health… Fabbo study results for Vit D

Sun…     …or rain, get out there and grab the benefits of natural light on our body, mind and soul! Yet another amazing study has come out showing a positive correlation between Vitamin D and mood. This one goes a bit further to show specifically that higher Vitamin D levels are associated with a decreased risk of depression! A new study, recently published in the November 2011 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings is the largest to date, involving 12,594 participants. Earlier, smaller studies have shown inconsistent findings on the link between Vitamin D and depression, so these results are

Thoughts On Health… Homeschooling

I talk all the time about homeschooling my kids, but I have never gone into depth about how or *why* we do it. So today is the day! As someone who has had over 23 years in a row of conventional education, surely I understand the value of learning new things. But want to know the truth? The only things I remember from all of those years, especially the years in med school and internship, are the things I taught myself. Do I remember every single medication that we were grilled on in Pharmacy class? Nope. And good thing too,

Shout out to my loves…

Just so absolutely on-my-knees grateful for the love in my life…   … a husband I met in med school…     … and married.         Children who have literally taken my breath away from sheer happiness…     … over and over again.     That my hubby is my best friend.   And I know my parents and brothers shy away from being on my blog, so I don’t mention them as much as I’d like, but I really want each of them to know that my gratitude starts with growing up in the family

Thoughts On Health… Crossing Over

“Moving On” There is a special kind of sweetness that comes when someone you love has passed away but you know they are re-joining their soulmate who awaits them. This has happened to me twice in the past six months… I’ve felt a very definite *relief* and deep joy mixed into the sadness and mucky human emotions that death brings up. It’s as though I can feel the joy that this person has in being once again hand-in-hand with the spouse that they missed so much. I get a feeling that they are not looking back as much as folks
