My Favorite Winter Solstice tradition… releasing our dreams into the night

Last year I posted this celebration idea *after* Winter Solstice, which does you… dear reader… no good. So this year I wanted to post it the week before… it’s such a simple, easy, and sweet way to mark the darkest day with honor and a bit of candlelight. It is something my entire family looks forward to every year. This Winter Solstice we’ll be traveling, but I’m taking some slips of paper and a few matches so that we can create our sacred space wherever we are. I would love to know that a few of you are out there …

Laughing At Myself

My kids recently asked me what was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me. Well, lots of them I had to censor for my kids… and don’t particularly want to share on the internet, either. But once I started really digging into the G rated stuff that I could share, I started laughing so hard with them, and it felt soooo good. Hearing them laugh along too just had me breathless with joy. I told them about the time when I was twelve and I was on a family trip with my parents and brothers. We …

Quote Splat #5… Forgiveness

Forgiving doesn’t erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future. – Lewis Smedes Forgiveness. It’s tough to seek out and it is sometimes tough to give. I still have events in my life that I ruminate about and wish I could erase, do over, rewind. The are stuck there. That’s why I love this quote. Forgiveness doesn’t have to erase what happened. In fact, it doesn’t. But this notion that something …

I want to talk to you!

I was a bit nervous, but had SOOOO much fun chatting with Tracy Liebmann on In the Flow with Tracy.   We touch on so many topics: How art heals Creating = Health Where our health issues arise is where our creative process is blocked Release through any creative outlet Stop trying to fix everything Being and allowing, create health Our natural state of being is health Blending Medicine and Art Stop problem solving and start creating! Finding, then following your souls purpose Releasing the need to define everything How to draw creative energy into you What the …

Quote Splat #4

We don’t see things as they are. We see things as we are. – Anais Nin         Okay, so this is my fourth favorite quote in the world. One I am still just barely beginning to grasp the enormous truth of, as I make my way through this life seeing it echo again and again and again. Both in my own self and in others. It’s just so beautiful and so true, in everything. In the way I see that people who truly feel good see so much good in others. In the way that every conflict …

Fav Quote #3

Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, But around in awareness. – James Thurber       I love this quote! One of my favorite quotes of all time, I wanted to capture it on paper and bring the meaning alive. This is my third quote splat… just a weekly series of fun, silly, low-key illustrations that I splat onto the page in just a few minutes, off the cuff, to accompany my favorite quotes. To illustrate the “looking back in anger” I painted the left side of the paper red and filled it up …

Quote Splat #2… fav quote from Buechner

Listen to your life, See it for the fathomless mystery that it is. In the boredom and pain of it No less then in the excitement and gladness. – Frederick Buechner           Okay, so I admit it. Sometimes I really need this reminder. Sure, I can see the beauty in every day and in the earth and the trees and the wind and in my child’s laughter and in my husband’s eyes. Even in the pain of life… But in the boredom? It’s just so… boring. Yet I love that Buechner chose that word specifically… it’s …
