The Good News About Trauma Recovery

Is there good news with trauma? Actually, yes.     The largest meta-analysis to date on trauma recovery (looking at data from over 11,000 relevant medical studies) suggests that the best long term recovery after trauma is simply talking about it, no medication required.   Published in JAMA Psychiatry on June 12, 2019, reasearchers looked at direct comparisons between talk therapy (psychotherapy) and drug therapy (pharmacological treatments) in patients with PTSD. They found that in the long term, talk therapy helped more, being slightly superior to drug therapy both immediately following treatment and in long term follow up. The studies […]

Just In Time For Back-To-School: Get Rid of Your Sleep Deficit

I recently returned from a medical conference where one of the lectures was on repairing sleep deficits.   Something I was very interested in because I’ve always been a poor sleeper all of my life. The take home point that really stuck in my mind, and now when I have a sleepless night I remind myself of this again and again so that I don’t stress out too much about it, was: You are only ever one night away from a good night of sleep.   It doesn’t matter how long you’ve struggled with insomnia or how big your sleep

Grounding To Boost Your Metabolism & Lose Weight

Directly touching the earth impacts your metabolic functions, and as I found out, can even help you lose weight.   The first study to look at the basal metabolic rate of grounding was published in 2010. In this study, half of the participants were grounded and half were sham-grounded in a double-blind placebo-controlled study. After grounding (or sham grounding) the patients for 40 minutes, all of the parameters of metabolic function immediately improved in all of the grounded patients, but that boost was not seen in any of the ungrounded patients. Heart rate increased slightly, respiratory rate increased, and

The Healing Power Of Grounded Touch

I recently received an awesome question from a reader. It was: “If a very sick person is lacking in the earth’s electrons, can they unknowingly ‘steal’ those electrons from another person by touching them?”   The short answer to this is: yes.   When you were a kid, did you ever walk around in your socks, rubbing them on a carpet repeatedly so you could sneak up to your sibling and shock them? (Or was that just me, LOL?). If you’ve ever shocked someone when touching them, you know this on a large scale — with a large quantity

When You Are Doing Something Meaningful, Your Brain Works Better

Now there is medical proof that the more you are self motivated when learning something, the better your brain works.   Published October 22, 2014 in Neuron, researchers found that having your own internal motivation, in the form of curiosity, not only allows your brain to have enhanced memory and function. Being curious about learning something enhanced the study participants absorption and ability to master the information they were curious to learn and even enhanced their ability to remember non-related information alongside it. Researchers could literally see the brain enhance function on MRI when the subject was highly curious

Giving The Gift Of Health: The 3 Best Ways

We all have loved ones in our lives that could use a health boost.   And more than anything, that’s what we want to give them as a gift. A way to feel better. The gift of more energy, happier days ahead, and better health. But sometimes giving a healing tool is actually a tricky gift, because it is so personal. Health, and especially health struggles, are so deeply emotional and so personal. (Like I talk about here, even just the experience of pain is hardwired to the emotional centers in our brain and can trigger all kinds of
