Second best thing to a new sofa…

Well, I’ve been wanting a new sofa, because the cushions are all shot on this one. But that’s not in the cards any time soon, so I did the next best thing… took the old white slip cover that originally came with the sofa, and dyed it bright, tropical blue! So I picked up about 6 packs of Rit dye (in Teal)… is there an organic alternative to Rit? Probably. But I had visions of steeping onion peels and beet juice and to be honest, I’ve tried that on Easter Eggs and it just never came out to be …

Composting

Our garden soil, just after addition of our compost bin. Bits of visible egg shell and food peels tell the story of our life, making this soil so much richer and more meaningful to our food and our land then a purchased bag of uniformly milled soil.   I can’t say enough about composting. I can understand why some folks feel resistant to it, I know I used to. It seemed like it would smell bad, would attract vermin into my yard, and on top of that, be a pain in the butt. So it’s a coming back to center that has us on the right path. – Cheri Huber The brain is our knowledge power house. It is our database, stores our memories, sorts facts, a …

Thoughts on Health… Super Simple Spring Detox

Wow. The weather this past weekend really knocked my socks off! The warmth and sun has made me into a new woman! And like I do every year when the earth begins to warm and spring buds start popping up everywhere, I get spring cleaning fever. Not just in my home (although I spring cleaned all our closets over the weekend and that felt super good!) but also I want to spring clean my body, from the inside out. I know there are a million ways to do this… raw food diets and clean diets and fasting and liver cleanses …

Organic Gardening Series… kicking it off with seeds!

Spring has filled the air around here… at least it’s become warm enough for me to realize the ground isn’t going to stay cold for long and I better get some of the garden fertilized and seedlings started. The first step of this whole process is to make sure we are getting non-GMO seeds. With the recent surrender of Whole Foods, Organic Valley, and Stoneyfeild Farms to the Monsanto GMO dictatorship, it is more important then EVER to make sure you are as close to your food as possible… knowing where your food comes from is the only real way …
