Your Extra Weight Is Not As Bad For You As Your Doctor Wants You To Think

I am always reading the medical literature looking for positive messages to share with you. And during the holiday season… when most of us have naturally gained a little weight… this is the perfect time to share today’s uplifting medical study with you. This latest study didn’t receive much attention (the negative scary reports always seem to be the ones your doctors want to share with you!) but I think it should have.   Researchers looked at two very large databases, examining body mass (Body Mass Index — BMI) and metastatic renal (kidney) cancer survival rates. They found that obesity […]

Anxiety Doubles Cancer Mortality. It Doesn’t Have To… Here’s How.

Presented Sept 20, 2016 at the 29th European College of Neuropsychoparmacology Congress, the largest study to date looking at patients with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) reveals that anxiety more than doubles the risk of a mortality from cancer. Even after adjusting for smoking, alcohol intake, sedentary lifestyle and other co-morbid disease conditions, just having anxiety independently increases cancer mortality rates.     The Study: Looking at over 15,000 patients older than 40 years old from 1993 through 1997, researchers followed the participants through 2015. Participants with a diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) were followed for cancer diagnosis and

The Quickest Way To Heal Is To Surrender, Here’s How

Surrendering is safe.   Working intuitively with patients all over the globe, I’ve learned a lot about loss, grief and healing. I can say for a fact that what heals people in real life contrasts quite vividly to what I *learned* about grief and healing in med school. I still remember being in medical school and learning all about the classic model of the grief process, set forth by the amazing and brave Elisabeth Kubler-Ross:   D A B D A (I’m sure many of my readers, who are also healers, are familiar with this acronym:) meaning: D — denial

Immediate Healing Support That Works For Everyone

I’ve been a physician for over 16 years and I’ve seen quite a lot of patients over those years. And during all that time, I’ve only come across one healing modality that supports the entire body — head to toe, every organ system — in such a powerful way.   Clear air is awesome and nurturing. Juicing is powerful and cleansing. Purified water is hydrating and supportive. But inevitably, with every holistic healing modality I worked with, there would be some patients who benefit greatly and some who get absolutely no results whatsoever.   Some folks heal with a certain

Adult Onset ADHD Totally Different Than Childhood ADHD

Ever since I blogged about 5 Holistic Ways To Treat ADHD a few weeks ago, I’ve gotten dozens of emails from readers wondering if the same approach would help them with their adult ADHD too. So this is the perfect time to update you on the latest medical research about adult onset ADHD and give you a few additional recommendations.   Although adulthood ADHD can absolutely simply be a continuation for childhood ADHD, researchers are now finding out that there is a separate, totally different, adult onset ADHD syndrome.   This is important to understand, because currently to have a

Bullying Is No Joke, 3 Ways To Protect Your Kids

Continuing in this Back-To-School month with a focus on the health of our children, let’s talk about something uncomfortable.     Let’s talk about something that we *need* to be talking about more. Let’s talk about something positive that we can do to protect the physical and mental well being of our children for the rest of their lives: end bullying. Published in JAMA Psychiatry in Feb, 2016, the largest study ever to look at childhood bullying documents something we already *know* — that victims of bullying in childhood have painful, lasting ramifications well into adulthood.   The Study:
