Happy Labor Day!

I have one of the most amazing friends in the world, Barbara Rivera… creator and innovator of Birth Power. I think she is brilliant. She has so much passion for birthing… and she wants every girl in the world today to grow up with positive birthing images… positive birth stories… infused with the knowledge that giving birth is natural, glorious, and wonderful.   Ever since birth has been made into a clinically sterile and even negative event by the media and medical professionals, it has become harder and harder for our young children to grow up in a world where […]

Fav Quote #3

Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, But around in awareness. – James Thurber       I love this quote! One of my favorite quotes of all time, I wanted to capture it on paper and bring the meaning alive. This is my third quote splat… just a weekly series of fun, silly, low-key illustrations that I splat onto the page in just a few minutes, off the cuff, to accompany my favorite quotes. To illustrate the “looking back in anger” I painted the left side of the paper red and filled it up

Thoughts On Health… Dry Cleaning

My poor sweet husband. He goes to work with the most wrinkled shirts on earth. In the early years of our marriage, we used to dry clean his shirts. This is because I refuse to iron. I just won’t do it. We have one, but this is the only time it gets used: when my kids want to make treasure maps.   My daughter using the iron to create her treasure map! I haven’t touched the thing in years…   Otherwise, it gets no play at all. I have a steamer too, and that is a great option for

Quote Splat #2… fav quote from Buechner

Listen to your life, See it for the fathomless mystery that it is. In the boredom and pain of it No less then in the excitement and gladness. – Frederick Buechner           Okay, so I admit it. Sometimes I really need this reminder. Sure, I can see the beauty in every day and in the earth and the trees and the wind and in my child’s laughter and in my husband’s eyes. Even in the pain of life… But in the boredom? It’s just so… boring. Yet I love that Buechner chose that word specifically… it’s

Thoughts On Health… my fav water filter

You all know how I feel about fluoride. I’ve blogged here about why I avoid it in my toothpaste and why I don’t really want to be drinking it, either. In fact, as I get older and have passed the age of peak bone density (and anyone who is over the age of 30 has) I want to preserve bone mass more than ever. I really think it is important that I avoid fluoride altogether (and soy too.) Alas, this is impossible. If you eat food grown from the earth, you consume fluoride. Thanks to the government mass medicating

Miles, I know you read my blog, so this post is just for you.   I wanted to be the very first one to wish you a happy birthday today… in fact, I’m sending this out the very moment you were born 8 years ago. 12:39AM. You add depth and humor and passion and intensity and fun and music and JOY to our family, and we all love you beyond words. We are so blessed to be by your side,

Quote Splat #1

There are hundreds of paths up the mountain all leading in the same direction, so it doesn’t matter which path you take. The only one wasting time is one who runs around and around the mountain, telling everyone that his or her path is wrong. – Hindu saying         Quote Splat is just for fun. I have been doing so much art for “work” that I hadn’t created much art for pure fun lately. I decided to take just a little bit of time each week to take one of my very favorite quotes, and throw it
