New Beginnings

The past several nights have been near freezing temps and I wake to find a frosty lawn. It makes me worry that I put my seedlings out too early, so I go to check on how they have survived in their makeshift greenhouses. Walking out onto my front porch, I’m reminded that life doesn’t always run as smoothly as we hope. Not only have the temps been dipping below what I was anticipating, but the cover to one of my greenhouses has blown away in this passionate windy weather we’ve been having. Making do, by putting some saran wrap over […]

Thoughts on Health… Super Simple Spring Detox

Wow. The weather this past weekend really knocked my socks off! The warmth and sun has made me into a new woman! And like I do every year when the earth begins to warm and spring buds start popping up everywhere, I get spring cleaning fever. Not just in my home (although I spring cleaned all our closets over the weekend and that felt super good!) but also I want to spring clean my body, from the inside out. I know there are a million ways to do this… raw food diets and clean diets and fasting and liver cleanses

Thoughts On Health… Cosmetics

Clara takes a few pictures of me plucking my eyebrows… and plucking my brows to open up the eye area is my favorite “beauty secret” by far! Although there are many types of preservatives and artificial colors and scents in make up that I’d prefer to avoid, I don’t have any set rules. I prefer not to use formulas with parabens in them, or petroleum products… but at the same time, I have a huge amount of respect for the human body and it’s ability to take in what is wanted, and filter out and excrete what is not. Yep,

Skin Care, Part II

Thank you so much for such a great discussion about skin care last Monday. I appreciated the comments and the suggestions and insight from readers so much! Wendy gave a great tip to avoid using citrus essential oils on the skin (it increases photosensitivity) and Barbara had a great recommendation for all you locals wanting microdermabrasion (Dawn at Daniel Island Medical Spa) and there are even more great tips if you want to take a look. I don’t have any recent skin-care-related photos to share with this post today, so I thought I’d include some new pics of my wire

Thoughts on Health… A Poem That Wrote Itself

a close up on my All Is Well original painting Welcome back from the holidays!!!! This Monday I was planning on doing a FAQ about Homeschooling… until I woke up this morning with a poem half out of my head and the other half wiggling out. I didn’t want to forget a word of it, so I grabbed a dull pencil from my nightstand and wrote the words down in the margins of the closest book I could find. I’m walking a very raw path right now… transforming and still in the creative process of merging my old life (analytical,

Thoughts on Health… Positive thinking and a Dream Revelation

I was told recently that life was *easy* for me because I was a positive thinker. I almost fainted… and laughed. I am so far from a natural positive thinker it’s not even funny, so I didn’t laugh. I was extremely pessimistic and worried as a child. Through lots of diligent work I *literally* am not even the same person that I was years ago.   But I didn’t change this by “positive thinking” — that’s for sure!     I don’t even like the idea of *positive thinking* at all. Because positive thinking is usually fake… something you try
