The Power Of Hope (+ Free Poster)

Several months ago I attended a medical seminar where one of the presenters, a warm and kind physician who was presenting a lecture on diabetes, made an off-hand comment. He was showing a slide about a recent medical study conducted on Type 2 Diabetes. The slide showed that all of the study participants did better than the general population. Everyone improved, whether they got the treatment that was being tested in this study or not. That means even the baseline participants, the ones who got absolutely no medical intervention whatsoever after signing up to be part of this study, had […]

Sleep Deprivation Found To Increase Weight After Only A Few Days

A new study, recently published in SLEEP last month (July 2013) found that folks gained a significant amount of weight after only 5 days of poor sleep.   Previous studies have shown a link between poor sleep and weight gain, but this is the first study where participants slept in-house in a sleep facility and the actual weight gain was measurably significant after only a handful of 4 hour nights in a row. Here are the study details: Researchers took 225 healthy adults with no history of sleep problems. Half of the participants had time in bed from 10

Skin Care Round Up — holistic moisturizing, exfoliation, and wound healing

My skin care motto is: simplify.   Let me tell you a little about my background… Before becoming a full time Mommy I was considering going into Dermatology, so in medical school I took three times the regular amount of training in Dermatology as a result. I also spent four summers throughout college working at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD… working with a research team who was investigating oncogenes. And… as I mentioned in my sunscreen article last week, my father was a top scientist at the forefront of melanoma research, so in my lifetime I’ve gotten a

My Favorite Way To Protect Against Skin Cancer

Last week over the holidays I soaked up tons of sun with my children and connected with the earth and the ocean and the sun and the sand. It was glorious and healing. I’ll also walk you through my thoughts on the whole sunscreen dilemma… for us it is only our THIRD line of defense against skin cancer and in many instances I’d

The best way to Google health information

It’s my mission to decrease your health anxiety.   One way I want to do that is connect directly with you… my soul energy on video speaking directly to your soul energy… because I know that in times of crisis there is nothing more comforting then open hearted words of support.   Before my own life took an unexpected turn recently, I had pre-recorded several videos for you on the topic of decreasing your anxiety over health.   Today I am releasing another one of them for you, as even during times of stress and wounding I want to maintain

Tooth Whitening The Organic Way… 3 Simple Steps.

Here is another post I wrote just prior to our family crisis.   I wrote today’s post several weeks ago, during the simple, beautiful, pre-divorce days when my life was full of silly fun things like curling my hair and making my teeth nice and white. Because I had gotten so many emails asking about holistic tooth whitening, I wrote this post to give you the scoop on how to brighten and whiten your smile without any toxic chemicals.   I *trust* and I *believe* that those silly fun days will return, better than ever, because we will naturally re-align

Poor Sleep Linked to Alzheimers: 9 Ways To Fix It.

For ages and ages, human beings followed the rhythm of the sun… going to sleep when the sun went down and rising with the sun in the morning. Our circadian rhythm was in concert with the earth and ensured that we got deep, restorative sleep in order to face the next day.   These days, artificial lighting and long work days mean that most people (myself included!) have some sort of sleep abnormality and/or circadian rhythm disruption. Although we know that lack of sleep causes everything from memory problems, fatigue, decreased concentration, stress, and increased food cravings, a recent study
