11 Essential Health Questions To Ask Yourself Every Fall

We are in mid September now, and the fall Equinox is this Saturday. And for so many of us, shorter days and longer nights means a dip in our mood.   Fortunately, there are lots of great things to do to get prepared as the seasons change. Of course there are things like pulling out your sweaters and boots and knitting a scarf or two and planting a winter garden and getting the fireplace cleaned that you might look forward to this fall. But one thing that I get every year, and absolutely never look forward to, is a drop […]

Sauna For A Longer Life Span? Yes Please.

Now this is a medical study I can really get behind, because I LOVE HEAT. And I love love love anything that boosts circulation — like grounding, sauna, steam room, hot baths, sleeping with a hot water bottle, hugs, massages, exercise (ok, exercise, not so much….) It just feels intuitively right to get your blood flowing, don’t you think?   Thats why I’m so thrilled that there have been so many studies recently looking at the health benefits of routine sauna. Researchers had previously discovered that folks who used a sauna two or more times a week had significantly reduced

The Vitamin Combo That’s Saving Lives

Sepsis is an overwhelming infection of the body which triggers widespread inflammation that carries a very high death rate.   Sepisis is one of the leading causes of hospital deaths, even when treated with the most advanced intravenous antibiotics and life support. Yet a recent study (published in June 2017) has shown that a simple vitamin cocktail can reduce the rate of death in sepsis from a 40% death rate down to a 9% death rate! Dropping deaths to less than 1/4th the original death rate, just from adding on a simple vitamin + steroid combo. This is big news.

A Super Interesting Difference Between Men and Women

A very interesting study looked at how our heart responds to mental stress. Turns out, there is a very key difference between the way a woman’s heart responds to stress and the way a man’s heart responds.   Mental stress is well known to trigger cardiac changes (as I go into more detail on below…) but so far, no study had looked out a difference between the sexes. Today’s study, published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology on Dec. 21, 2017, showed definitively that there is an incredible difference between how a woman’s cardiovascular system responds to mental stress

Grounding Instantly Helps Your Brain, Mood, and Sleep

As I’ll talk about with you on today’s video… EEG studies of brain activity show that grounding instantaneously shifts our brain wave patterns and reduces ambient stress levels.   Getting into the relaxed but alert alpha brain wave pattern, which is seen in deep meditative states and healing sleep states, is the hallmarks of grounding. Grounding allows the brain to spend more time in that healing, restorative alpha brain wave state, and allows us to feel calm and alert during waking hours as well. Deeper, more restorative sleep at night puts us in a zone of healing, while lack of

If there was one thing I would want to give you to start your next year off in the best possible healing mindframe, it’s this truth: Look at what is possible in health. What is possible is where your healing lies. What you feel is possible for YOU defines exactly how far you can go with your healing. You can go as far as you feel is possible for you to go and no further.   So let’s start 2018 off reminding ourselves: You are always full of healing potential… always. No one can tell you what is true for

I Had No Idea This One Neurotransmitter Changes Everything We Know About Aging

Serotonin is historically linked with depression — and poor sleep as well — since serotonin is the precursor to melatonin and folks who are low in serotonin are likely low in melatonin too. (Which sucks because as I blog about here, folks struggling with depression are only likely to have the depression resolve if they are sleeping well.) But today’s medical study truly blew me away, because it reveals that serotonin isn’t just linked with depression and sleep, but with cognition.   In fact, this study suggests that the decline in cognition and memory issues as we age isn’t simply
